As we explore what makes relationships tick, we will be covering topics such as: listening, friendships, intimate relationships, workplace issues, family dynamics, love, and conflict strategies. You will have several opportunities to reflect on your own relationships and communication style to find ways to improve all facets of your life. As part of this journey together, I will post the latest studies and hot topics related to interpersonal communication on this blog. Your job is to respond with an example to either confirm or disagree with the posting by sharing insights from your own experiences, or one you've found on a TV show, movie, or research. Feel free to comment on others' postings, and also post any interesting (articles, links, videos, books, tweets, jokes, etc.) related to communication and one-on-one relationships. I look forward to blogging with you!
Please introduce yourself by stating at least three things about yourself. First comment due June 11th by midnight. Also, don't forget to post your comments on the first BLOG due June 11th, too!
Andrea Mancillas
Northwest Vista College
I'm Andrea Mancillas. I have a GORGEOUS 4 month young baby boy, Nicolas, who I absolutely adore as much as my wonderful husband, Alfonso! I'm sure you will hear about both of them throughout this summer course! I love working out! I started Crossfit this week, so I hope to fit back into some of my pre-pregnancy work clothes by the end of the summer. :-) I am also a high school teacher at John Jay High School, so if there are any Mustangs in my class, let me know! I am excited about this course, and I hope you are excited, too!
ReplyDeleteWe joined the gold's gym (due to open in August) on 151 and Potranco. I am so looking forward to the body pump classes. In the meantime, I go to Lackland (JBSA) and cycle outdoors as much as I can. I have gained over 15 pounds since returning to San Antonio.....I really need to get into gear. Good luck on your cross fit training....
DeleteI'm Yvette Ramirez. Nice to meet you. My friends have a Cross Fit gym somewhere in Helotes, I believe, perhaps you have attended or met them. Ricky Damiano? I am excited about taking this course to understand more about and also make improvements in my Interpersonal Communication. A little about myself: I love the Lord; seeking, challenging & understanding things in the Bible and talking to others about their experiences is an aspect I consider key while living in this world. I am a returning adult student. I have my BA in Psychology and my MA in Adult and Higher Education. I have worked in several fields and am now seeking to become a Sign Language Interpreter. I have a very eclectic personality, and am always learning more about myself and becoming more confident in my genuine identity. I can go running one week and then prefer spending time alone playing my keyboard or singing songs the next. I enjoy being around children or those that have a child-like heart and listening to what they say because it's where innocence and honesty is observed and can be learned from. I am learning to enjoy walking and not always feeling like life is a race. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi I am Amber Gutierrez. I have three wonderful kids who keep me busy. I also work fulltime while attending Northwest vista. The thing is I have a wonderful support team which is my partner of six years
ReplyDeleteHello, I am Donna Smallwood and an honorary Texan by marriage. I have lived in San Antonio for almost 2 years prior to which I lived in a small town in Nebraska. I have two sons and two gold fish, and truly believe your life is what you endeavor to make it.
ReplyDeleteWe were stationed at Offut AFB and I worked in Bellevue.
DeleteHi, I'm Andrea Ortiz. I am a full time student and work part time at a restaurant. I've attended every semester excluding one summer session since I've graduated high school, this is my last semester at Northwest Vista and I will be attending UTSA in the fall. I am planning on obtaining a Ph.D in Psychology from UT Austin. I like to spend my free time with my friends, at the gym, or being creative. I've learned to be more open minded in the past two years, than ever before in my life. I believe being open minded takes constant effort, which I hope to continue to work at for the rest of my life.
ReplyDeleteI'm Late! Monica Martinez here.....I have three babies of the four-legged kind. Two needy Poodles and a mutt who is the sweetest thing. I graduated high school in 1985 and joined the work force immediately. Married a military man and have traveled across the U.S. and abroad. I never thought I would leave Texas! We lived in Las Vegas for 13 years...WooHoo but we are finally home. We have been back almost three years now and I had forgotten how miserable I am with these Texas allergies!!! I am your non-traditional student and I have set goals for myself and tell myself "It's never too late." School is going to be work for me however, I have entered college with a different set of mind then who I was at age 18. I'm ready!
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Elysia Macias this is my first time taking a Summer course at Northwest Vista. Otherwise I am a full time student here pursing my degree in Education. I plan to transfer to the Texas A&M branch here in San Antonio. I am a military brat but I've finally arrived at my destination here in San Antonio and am glad to have since I have many family and friends here in San Antonio. I am also glad to be here since the Spurs are my favorite NBA team, it's been a pleasure to see them here at home. I'm a former tomboy, as far as looks anyways, otherwise I'm tech obsessed and an avid 'gamer'. Being a military brat I am very close with my family as well as the friends that I still have to this day. I have a wonderful significant other that I've been with almost 3 years. My experience globally has brought me to be the respecting, appreciative and compassionate person I am today and can't wait to feel the joy of changing and/or impacting a young ones life.
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Brandon Rodriguez and this is my first time taking a summer class. I started college this year in January and I'm going for a psychology major. I have completed 4 years of active duty military service in the Air Force and am now a reservist. I was born and raised in San Antonio, it feels really good to back after 4 years. My goals are to get my degree and to prepare for the future.
ReplyDeleteHello I did not know this was due two days ago as it seems some of you didn't either but here goes anyway. My name is Mark and I missed the first day of class so none of you have seen me yet. I am in my 3rd semester in college at the age of 25 after being out of school for about 6yrs. I have a 6yr old daughter who doesn't live with me but I have a relationship with none the less. I also am a pretty big video game nerd and like computers. My major is computer science and I'm looking foward to meeting all of you and possibly making new friends.
ReplyDeleteHello, I'm Chelsea Koppelman, and I'm 22 years old and I'm going to be graduating this fall semester from SAC with an associates in pre-nursing and then in 2014 I'll be attending UTHSC for the next 2 years. I don't have any kids yet, but my little sister had one last year making me an aunt and giving me the best reason to try my hardest to do the right thing and become a good role model. I love learning about health and humanity and i love the Spurs!
ReplyDeleteHi my name is Morgan Francis. I graduated last year from Brennan High School. I have 2 Shiba Inus, Momo and Josie, which I am constantly taking pictures of and posting to Instagram. I would have to say I'm a little bit obsessed with them. I am proud to say that I have completed 2 Half Marathons and 1 Full Marathon all by the age of 18. I enjoy running and physical activity.
ReplyDeleteHi guys! I'm Shea! I will be graduating NVC in August, and I have loved every second of it. I'm a really laid back kind of person. I have lived here in SA since 2010 when my bf and I moved here from The Colony (outside of Dallas). I am a singer, and I am leaning towards teaching Montessori school as a career. After I finish here, I will most likely continue to University somewhere other than Texas. Probably NM where my brother/best friend lives. Lets see, my bf and I have been together for 5 years, and I was in the Navy for 8. I am 36. That is all. Love!
